Now , you might have heard that Manhattan isn’t exactly the cheapest place in the world, and a night or two in a hotel could cause your budget to skyrocket. Now you might embrace that fact – you’re not in New York City for a sporting event very often after all; but there are some options for every fan – even those wanting to cut costs a bit.

Just 0.3 kilometres away from Madison Square Garden, you will even have time to hit the bars before you catch a game. This basic hotel offers single rooms for just $72 a night! Yes, there isn’t much in the way of décor in the room and you do have to share a bathroom but with free wifi and a decent breakfast included – for the price, you can’t beat it.

Leo House is a little further away from Madison Square Gardens (0.7k), but it is still under a 10 minute walk, so you’re in no danger of missing the start of the event! For a double room with a private bathroom, you’ll be paying around $140 a night – split between two, it’s really not bad. That price also includes a great buffet breakfast. Old style New York at affordable prices.

Chain hotels are popular for a reason. You know you are getting a spotless room, good service, a fantastic location and a great breakfast. This is all true at the Holiday Inn Express, just a 2 minute walk away from the stadium itself! If you’re inspired by what you see on he court, there is even a fitness centre, free for the guests to use. A double room with a private bathroom starts from $264 a night. We may be getting a bit pricey, but you can book without the ‘fear of the unknown’.

For a fantastic hotel without the major pricetag – you should book a room at the Arlo on East 31st street (see map below). Madison Square Garden is only a 10 minute walk away and you can get a Queen Room with a fantastic city skyline view for $300. For the price, you get a rather spacious room with all the creature comforts of a 4 star hotel. Take advantage of the free gym and business area, or take a drink at their skybar and look out at the whole of Manhattan. The treats continue the next morning, with breakfast being something you’ll be looking forward to all night!
