With the stadium being only opened in 2009, you would expect there to be ample food and drink stands…and there are! There are all different types of food and drinks available to you, from hot dogs and burgers to kebabs and pretzels! With the many stands the queues aren’t usually that bad – however in an attempt to reduce lines even the club have introduced a cashless payment system that stops you fumbling around for loose change!

Like most of the German venues, also the WWK Arena offers its fans Bratwurst (“sausage”) and beer. Don’t forget that you’re in Bavaria, the place in Germany where they say has the best sausages and the best beer. Therefore, I definitely recommend having that food and drink combination to get an idea. My favorite: the “FCA-Knacker”, a spicy sausage filled with cheese – delicious! Be aware that you cannot pay by cash. Before purchasing any goods, get the so-called FCA Card in the stadium which can be charged on numerous counters.

The draw at Augsburg is the beer. Bavaria is the heartland of German brewing and the standard is unbelievable, so plan to try plenty. The stadium brew is Riegele, the city’s favourite beer, founded in 1836. The price is (for Bavaria) reasonable €4.20 a throw, while the ubiquitous bratwurst will set you back €3.30.
Like many Bundesliga clubs, Augsburg have a cashless stadium, so prepare to top up your FCA card regularly. You can pick one up from sellers outside the ground – they’re the folks in the light green jackets.
