The stadium itself is only about 2km from the city center and the main bar district in town. Be aware, that most fans meet in that area before going to a match. A lot of people even walk from there to the stadium and already chant. One example is the bar “Heimspiel” where a lot of fans gather before a match or also watch away games of their beloved team. If you are already at the stadium there is one bar about 1km from the venue called “Bei mir zu Haus”. Very local pub with great self-brewed beer, something to check out if you’re not interested in the inner city. Also, there are some lounges and bars inside the stadium that open long before a home game starts.

For a pre-match pint, most fans prefer to stay in the city where bars are more plentiful. That said, even more fans prefer to buy a crate of Kölsch between friends and split it on the train.

The drinking options around the RheinEnergie Stadion are slim to none, though the interestingly named “Doping” bar behind the tram stop is worth testing out. Your best bet though is just to stay in the city and  head out with everyone else about an hour before kick off.

There are places to entertain yourself on either side of the river in Cologne – and with all the options that are out there, it all just depends on what sort of night that you are after.

Places such as ‘Fruh an Dom’ and ‘Gaffel Haus’ are great examples of classic Cologne brew houses that make their own versions of ‘Kolsh’ – the beer that the city is known for. Great places to spend the day or the hours leading up to the concert.

Though if a cocktail bar is more of your scene, you have two excellent options in both Die Mumu and ONA MOR Bar.
