The Alstadt or Old Town in Dusseldorf is world renowned for having an almighty collection of bars and pub with over 300 of them. Indeed, it’s known as the longest bar in the world!

Zum Schlüssel is a locals favorite – though be careful, if they see you with an empty glass they will put a full glass of beer down on the table in front of you.

The Alstadt offers something for everyone – with a bacon tasting beer brewed in places such as Zum Uerige, to bars with €1 shots. Just take a walk around this 1 square km district and have a lot of fun!

Unfortunately, the venue is located further outside of the city near the exhibition area and the airport respectively. If you want to experience a rather lively bar scene you will have to get to the city center or start the day there and then make your way to the stadium shortly before a match. If you are already at the venue and have some extra time left, I suggest you get to the “Taverna Toxotis” which is a restaurant and beer garden. It is about 800m from the stadium near the metro station Messe Ost/Stockumer Straße.

There is nothing near the stadium worth visiting so don’t bother. The Altstadt is the place to be, with bars and even breweries everywhere. It has one of the highest concentrations of pubs anywhere in the world. Something to note is that in Düsseldorf, waiters will continually top up your beer – the local Alt style is served in small glasses – until you place a coaster on top of the glass to tell them to stop.
