Schalke are no different when it comes to buying food and drink in the concourses. The stadium operates on a cashless system, that although annoying to set up, does mean that queues are reducing at the 35 Kiosks around the ground. The Knappenkarte is available around the ground in €10, €25 and €50 denominations. Don’t worry though – you can get whatever balance is left on your card back at the end of the day.

There is only one thing a Schalke04 fan waits for during the entire year: the so-called Ruhrpott-Derby, a highly anticipated match between Schalke04 and Borussia Dortmund. Some say this is the most important day for the entire region. Surely, it is by far the most exciting derby in Germany, tickets sell out months before the match. If you ever get the chance to experience this very game, you should go for it. In German football this is a thing that every football fan should have done at least once in his life.

Schalke, like almost all German clubs, have a club song and it helps to learn the words. They’ll play it before the team enters and everyone will have a great time singing along. It’s a bit of an oompah-band song, and all you need to join in is to know the chorus: “Blau und Weiß wie lieb ich dich, Blau und Weiß, verlass mich nicht…”
