As already mentioned before, visiting a match of St. Pauli FC is a rememberable experience. If you are coming to Hamburg just to watch a game, you should definitely consider staying for the entire weekend and visit some of the historical city’s hot spots. Since you will be in the St. Pauli quarter anyways, you should really get yourself to the “Reeperbahn” also called “Kiez” not far from the stadium and experience some crazy nightlife. After a match you will encounter numerous football fans in this area and have a great time partying with your fellow football enthusiasts. People here are generally seen very friendly, it shouldn’t be hard to make any new friends since you share the same passion!

St Pauli have a huge fan friendship with Celtic from Glasgow, so expect to see plenty of their shirts and scarves in the crowd. They even sell each other’s merchandise in the club shop. As the team come onto the park, the music is Hell’s Bells by ACDC and thousands of fans along the Gegengerade will light sparklers, truly one of the great sights in German, if not world, football. Apparently they play Blur’s Song 2 after every goal, too, though this is largely rumoured as this writer has never managed to see them score in several visits…

One of the club’s mottos is that ‘You’ll never walk undressed’. As such, take yourself to the club store and find some of the craziest club team gear that you will ever find! Yes, there are your standard shirts and gloves but there are anarchist hats, leather jackets, dog bowls and skateboards. If you’re a St Pauli fan or even just a visitor – it is prime souvenir territory!
