Best Food and Drink at Melbourne Cricket Ground?
1 answer
If you’re in the MCC (Members) there are a number of bars to pick from, some with views over the ground. The crème-de-la-crème is the Long Room, but only full MCC members are allowed in there. The Jim Stynes Grill is fast becoming the new go-to bar/restaurant, with the 1.2kg Tomahawk Steak the popular menu item.
In the outer, there are a number of bars to pick from too. The Haydn Bunton Bar and The Lock-Up are two of the newer bars in the bowels of the Great Southern Stand. The Outer Bar on Level 1 of the Ponsford Stand has daylight and a good selection of beers on tap.
The food has also moved on from the traditional pie and chips, with a number of healthier options available from outlets right around the ground.

I don’t think you want to over think this. Pie with Sauce, with a bucket of chips is the standard issue here. The MCG have really broadened there food options in recent years to include healthier options, more premium junk food (pizzas with non-standard toppings), Red-Rooster and even higher end coffee carts! But, I think if you took a straw poll among fans, you’d find the Pie & Sauce would be the overwhelming favourite!
In terms of beer- again, it’s a pretty standard issue. The only tip that I would suggest is to keep your tray if you order for a group. Every time you order more than 4 you will need a tray, which costs extra. If you BYO tray for further orders you wont have to pay for it again.
