St James’ Park is a breath of fresh air compared to many other stadiums, as it is literally smack-bang in the middle of town. There are pubs all around the train station which are perfect for away fans: welcoming, great beers and a real matchday vibe. The Lounge and A Head of Steam are really popular, as is O’Neills which is right next to them. The dependable Wetherspoons tends to admit away fans as well: it’s called Union Rooms.

There are some pubs right next to the stadium that will not let in away fans at all – Places like The Strawberry are staunchly Newcastle FC pubs. There are as well some pubs on the ‘Diamond Strip’ near the station that won’t admit fans if they are wearing football shirts.
Still there are plenty of choices for away fans to make – Near the station you have O’Neill’s, Union Rooms, Head of Steam and The Mile Castle which are popular bars for both home and away supporters.
Further near the stadium itself is ‘The Gate’ probably the most popular away fans pub in Newcastle, as well as cheap and cheerful standards such as Yates’ and Wetherspoons.
