What to expect from the Court Suzanne Lenglen (Roland-Garros) crowd?
1 answer
Lenglen was designed with the fans in mind – the design of the stadium ensures that the noise is amplified not only from the crowd but also from the players! It’s more of a gladiator arena than a tennis court! The general atmosphere at Roland Garros is very welcoming and friendly. Around the complex you will see hundreds of people milling around, enjoying the day, eating lunch, having picnics or cheering the players on. Inside the courts themselves, there is a ‘proper’ way of conducting yourself however. Fans make a lot of noise with cheers and small chants, even Mexican waves, however when the umpire asks for quiet – fans must quieten down or risk being asked to leave the court. Shouts of encouragement are welcomed though by the players and the other fans, just do it at the right times!

As in all courts in Roland Garros, Court Suzanne Lenglen’s crowd is coming to appreciate big tennis events and that is probably why it is very respectful and friendly. French people do not mess around when it comes to respecting the silence when the game is on, so experiencing the real tennis spirit is guaranteed.
