If you want to experience a very wild game full of action then you should go to the derby between ‘SpVgg Greuther Fürth’ and ‘1. FC Nürnberg’. One of Bavaria’s most entertaining derbies as the two cities aren’t even 10km from each other. On this day, fans will already gather 5 hours before a match, usually in the city center and if the home team is victorious the party lasts until late at night. Make sure you bring green and white clothes, the home team’s colors! Do not wear anything red or purple. The match is anticipated weeks in advance and a lot of police will be on the ground. Usually it is peaceful and you can join in on the fun, but always stay defensive and cautious. Further, make sure you book your ticket in advance, the derby is usually sold out.

If you have bought yourself a ticket for the game in advance – you don’t have to worry about paying for the tram ticket! For 3 hours before kick-off and 3 hours after the final whistle, your ticket also acts as a transport pass! More money to spend on beer

While this might look like Bavaria (and is!), remember that you are in a region within a region, Franconia. The good people of Franconia are fiercely independent and think that their beer, their sausages and their area are bigger/better/more beautiful than anywhere else. Bavarias are known for this in Germany and Franconians are known for it in Bavaria, so it pays to be as complimentary as possible.
