What to expect from the Imtech Arena (Volksparkstadion) crowd?

Hamburger SV fans are usually very peaceful and you don’t have to expect any riots or similar stuff after a game even if their team lost. However, be smart and don’t provoke or don’t do any other stupid things that might get you in trouble. Hamburger SV is the only team in the Bundesliga which has never been relegated, thus, the fans sometimes are a bit spoilt, even though they are going through tough times at the moment. Nevertheless, I love the HSV fans, they are usually very supportive, friendly and simply iconic. Hamburg’s citizens are very proud of their team! Team colors are white, blue and black.

Hamburg SV have been a Budesliga institution for a long time – and the crowd really appirciates their team. Although the most of the atmosphere, singing and chanting comes from the home fans in the standing section behind the goal – it really is infectious when they get going! Hold on to your hats when Hamburg score a goal – if the stadium has a roof, the noise would blast it off!

Hamburg fans are mostly not from Hamburg or at least, are from Hamburg and the surrounding areas rather than just the city. That said, they’re a cosmopolitan bunch and you will generally find a welcoming atmosphere. Going in wearing the colours of any team that isn’t HSV is a bad idea, though, particularly the green of Bremen or the brown of St Pauli. For away fans, there is a serious police presence for every game, though trouble is hardly ever expected.
