What to expect from the Stadion Nurnberg crowd?

All in all, FC Nürnberg fans are said to be pretty enthusiastic and passionate. Especially the “Nuremberg Ultras” scene are known for the violent actions and have been responsible for several negative actions in the past. It’s a commonly known problem that even the club’s own moderate fans are facing and have to deal with. Nevertheless, atmosphere is usually great, loud and very lively. As guest fans I highly recommend not getting in touch with these hardcore fan groups, especially, if their team lost. Don’t provoke and always keep defensive, then everything should be totally fine.
If you want to experience the hardcore fans from a close distance you should chose any seats near the home stances, to be precise the north stands.

The atmosphere at the Stadion Nurnberg is a strange one, the octagonal shape of the stadium makes for a slight disconnected and disjointed fan base – and the fact that it has a 50,000 capacity means that it is virtually never sold out. This, added to the fact that there is a running track that separates the fans and the pitch doesn’t make for an amazingly pumped atmosphere. Yes, the North Stand Ultras make their voices heard – but away fans may have to bring their own fireworks.

Nürnberg fans are a knowledgeable bunch – you’d expect it from a team so steeped in history as they are – and even the blocks of the stadium are named after famous past players. What a long history means is plenty of rivalries, and games with Bayern, Fürth and Dortmund (due to a fan friendship with Schalke) notably passionate. That shouldn’t mean problems, but a little self-awareness goes a long way.
