Artifacts to look for at Air Canada Centre?
1 answer
Air Canada Centre does not have a lot of artifacts or history attached to it since its opening in 1999.
There has never been a major championship victory in the building by the Leafs or the Raptors in this building so there is a little history to commemorate. (The most major thing to celebrate is the success of the city’s lacrosse team which also plays in the building)
To sum up the lack of history in this building, I only need to go as far as the Bon Jovi banner hanging up from the rafters in the arena. This is for no other reason than the fact that Bon Jovi has sold more tickets in its 17 appearances at the ACC than any band in the arena’s history.
Recently the ACC has added some things to make up for the lack of sporting history.
‘Legends Row‘: This is a bronzed tribute to some of the great Toronto Maple Leafs players over the history of the organization with names such as Johnny Bower, Ted Kennedy and Mats Sundin honoured.
Eventually fans will see a star-studded wall of fame when they enter the ACC through Gate 1, near the Union Station entrance. The wall will feature plaques of music greats who have appeared at the ACC since The Tragically Hip became the first band to perform there in 1999, days after the official opening.
Maple Leaf Square is also a cool feature of the precinct, where a massive TV screen on the West side of the building is the centrepiece of area.
