Penn Commons and Matchbox Chinatown are two great bars to experience before and after the game. Penn Commons leans towards an upscale feel that fits ridiculously overpriced D.C. and suburbs of Northern Virginia and Maryland. The craft beer selection is great at both but if you’re with the kids, you can’t beat the brick oven pizza at Matchbox Chinatown on 713 H St. NW. Considering you would be paying for a truly cheap to make but sickeningly overpriced for no reason soda and hotdog at the game (don’t even mess with the arena food if you don’t have to), Penn Commons and Matchbox are two great choices especially if you get there early before the game. It definitely completes the enjoyable experience, especially if you have time.

If you’re looking to get into the game spirit, the Green Turtle is the Verizon Center’s official sports bar. You’ll be around tones of fans all gearing up for the game. However, Chinatown is full of amazing restaurants, offering everything form Mongolian BBQ, to Sushi, to Peruvian Chicken

District of Pi is a St. Louis-based pizzeria, which specializes in decadent deep dish, is about two blocks from Verizon Center’s main entrance, but it’s far enough off the main strip that the bar doesn’t get overrun. That leaves more space to enjoy the beers — a half-dozen of its 24 taps go to St. Louis’s Schlafly brewery — as well as its happy hour (from 4 to 6:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursday) of $4 drafts, $6 cocktails and $4 bar snacks, including puck-size meatballs.
