At the game you’ll feel safe and there are times you will forget you are at the home arena of the Wizards and Caps simply because of the Washington, D.C. area being full of out of area transplants here for jobs. You can always bet on a good number of opposing fans to be there. The Washington fans themselves are pretty great if I say so myself. People are people and you’re going to get a mix wherever you are but it is true many are stressed and tense because of the “rat race” business feel around D.C. so there are many that are not overly friendly like you might find in the Midwest or Deep South. You don’t have to worry about being bothered though. I remember a Wizards game where a fan was having a good time messing with Kevin Durant calling him skinny and whatnot but it usually never gets out of hand.

A diverse, semi spirited crowd that hasn’t seen much basketball success since the 70s. A lot of you government workers taking dates with company tickets. Some kids groups, who are likely the most passionate fans in the building.

The crowd can be a mix depending on what game you go to. The Wizards’ fans are pretty subdued, the Capitals fans love their hockey and love to cheer loudly. The Georgetown fans are very snobby and don’t cheer that hard other than the one student section. The Mystics don’t get many fans so they pump in a lot of music.
