Having been relegated last season, of course, didn’t do the overall crowd situation a favor. Having played in first league for a long time, they had difficulties to entirely fill up the stadium during this season. However, with a capacity of 49,000 seats, the arena is pretty big and they’re still ranked second regarding most visited stadiums in second league. The fans, however, are quite supportive and cheerful, you won’t be disappointed by the atmosphere. Rowdy fans or any riots after a game are usually not to expect from the home crowd.

As with most German stadiums, the atmosphere inside the HDI Arena is fantastic on matchdays. It doesn’t matter that the team are playing in the second league of German football at the moment – the fans still turn up every week and will their team on. flags, banners and signs are a very common sight at Hannover games – and when the South Stand all hold up their scarfs in unison, it’s a great sight.

Hannover are a big club with a poor team, so the fan turnout is much higher than one might expect in the second division. Their average attendances are still north of 40,000 in the 2. Liga and thus the atmosphere is excellent. Really, not much in Hannover goes on that is more interesting than the football team and it isn’t surprising that the fans turn out in the numbers that they do. Their local foes are Braunschweig and Wolfsburg, so it doesn’t pay to wear their yellow or green in the home end.
