Mainz is often called the carnival town number one. Which is why they play carnival music whenever their team, FSV Mainz 05, scores a goal. The carnival atmosphere is definitely to feel inside the stadium, fans are supper friendly and supportive and never hit the headlines with negative actions or behaviour. The stadium is usually packed and the fans will do everything to cheer for their team. I, personally, love the atmosphere in the Opel Arena! Make sure you’re wearing any red clothes to fully support the home team.

After the exciting days of Jurgen Klopp manning the helm, Mainz realised they needed to move into a new stadium, and in 2011 they did. This almost doubled the previous stadiums capacity and led to thousands more fans attending the matches. They have become a stalwart in the Bundesliga lately and the fans are loving every minute of it. The stadium is close to selling out for many of the home games which always creates a wonderful atmosphere!

Mainz are a boisterous bunch with plenty to be boisterous about. This is the best period in their history by far and thus the crowd is a combination of enthusiastic, never-had-it-so-good youngsters and grizzled old-timers who still remember the amateur era when crowds barely topped 1,000. Now they have 30 times that and the noise generated is excellent, especially when the 12,000 or so of them on the terrace get going.
